important notice: Weekend Masses moved to hall

September 17, 2019

Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, brought a chain of unexpected events here at St. John. A little after 2:00 in the afternoon a significant chunk of the plaster crown molding in the Church came crashing down in the sanctuary right over the presider and cantor chairs. The debris, large plaster chunks, traveled all the way to the middle of the Church. Thankfully, a woman who was praying on the side section where the ceiling fell, had left Church about 5 minutes before the fall. God was truly with us! Later that evening, ironically while Fr. Bill was praying quietly in Church, a second section came crashing down. The size and weight of this debris would surely have killed or severely injured anyone present in the sanctuary. As a result, we are taking the following steps until further notice:

Welcome - We're glad you're here.png

Every parish has a strong desire to be a welcoming parish, and St. John’s is no different.  We also strive to be a center of Evangelization.  We see ourselves as a parish family of disciples living out our faith.  At the same time, we have a responsibility to call and make new disciples.  We pray St. John’s will be a spiritual home where you can have a personal and communal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Of course we want to reach out to all age groups but extend a special welcome to children, teenagers, young adults, and millennials.  Disciples young and old ensure the continuation of our historic parish.

St. John the Evangelist has an impressive history as the oldest parish in the archdiocese and it is wonderful to acknowledge that history.  At the same time we are equally excited about the unlimited possibilities of our future and what lies ahead for our historic, forward-thinking, and increasingly diverse parish.  You're invited to journey with us as we write the next chapters of our parish history.  We look forward to welcoming you, and invite you to join the parish family of St. John.
