You know, we have a lot of demands on us day in and day out, things that we have to do, things we want to do, things that come up unpredictable. But are we making that daily prayer part of our lives? You know, prayer doesn’t need to be a half hour in a church. Prayer can be five minutes in the shower prayer can be 10 minutes as I’m waiting in line at the carpool. Anytime that we can carve out that little bit of time to talk to God, whether it’s a row prayer, like the Our Father and the Hail Mary, whether I just talk to God about what I’m worried about, what I’m scared about, the thing I’m not really looking forward to do today. Those daily check-ins with God, are crucial. And parents- as parents in a family you need to build that habit of prayer for your children, early on. That you come together as a family before they go to bed, even if it’s just to say the Hail Mary. That Spiritual schedule that you instill in them the importance of will be the lifelong lessons they carry with them as they grow up. I can still remember as a kid and many times not wanting to do it- kneeling down, with my sister, my parents, around my parents bed, praying the rosary. Or my parents coming into my bedroom before I go to bed to pray with me, that was part of their and my spiritual schedule- and that set a priority for me. That obviously grew as I became a man. So parents this is a great time as you begin, a new school year to say, what are the spiritual schedule where instilling in our kids? And daily prayer needs to be right up there. Doesn’t need to be more than a few minutes a day. But by you setting that as a priority communicates, your kids that it’s a priority and will be a lifelong lesson they carry with them longer than you will realize. Not a sermon, not a homily but just that little Jolt of Faith we all may need.

As we settle back into the rhythm of a new school year, it’s a good time to look at our spiritual schedule—and ask ourselves: Are we making time for daily prayer?
