In Saint Paul’s second letter to Saint Timothy, he offers a piece of advice we often forget. He urges that prayers be offered in the community for the emperor and those in authority so that the people of God could be at peace. In our crazy world, with politicians making all kinds of decisions, with disagreements even within the church, it’s sometimes so easy to let anger consume us over bad decisions, robbing us of that peace. But when we stand in the truth and turn it over to God, praying that God will change hearts and policies, we find the peace that is so crucial for us as disciples. Paul’s advice might be very ancient, but it still rings true in our world today. Let’s learn an important lesson from Saint Paul and pray for our leaders, finding that peace that only God can give.
