Is the post-Christmas “slump” real? As the decorations come down and we enter “Ordinary Time,” it can feel like the joy and beauty of the season are fading away. In this Jolt of Faith, we explore why the Church ends the Christmas season with the Baptism of the Lord. Just as Jesus used His baptism as a springboard for His ministry, our own baptism serves as the foundation for how we live day in and day out—reminding us that our lives are anything but ordinary.
What You’ll Learn in This Video:
– The Transition: Why “Ordinary Time” is the perfect season to live out the glory of Christmas.
-The Three Pillars: How Jesus’ baptism confirmed His Identity, Mission, and Purpose—and how it does the same for you.
– The Springboard: Why your baptism isn’t just a “dusty candle” in a closet, but a daily call to missionary discipleship.
– Daily Faith: Practical encouragement to carry the light of Christ into the world long after the holidays are over.

From Christmas Joy to Ordinary Time Mission | Jolt of Faith 1/14/26
So most of, you know, I really love Christmas. So when it’s over, and it’s time to take the decorations down, it’s not my favorite time of year, with all the beauty and the joy, and the happiness of Christmas. It seems so boring to go back, especially during winter to ordinary time. But there’s a reason, the church puts the baptism of the Lord at the end of the Christmas season, because it sets the stage for us of what our daily lives are meant to look like.
Let me explain that. Jesus went to the Jordan, to be baptized by His cousin John before He entered His public life before He began His ministry, His mission of saving us. And when He was there, He got three very important things, His identity confirmed as the Son of God, He got His mission to baptize, to teach, to preach and to redeem us and His purpose. This is my beloved Son. And my friends, the Lord’s baptism is the springboard so to speak for us to live as life of discipleship to be those missionary disciples were called to be. Now, most of us. Don’t remember the day of our baptism we might have seen a picture or have a dusty candle laying around, but that’s why the Lord’s baptism is so important as we transition back into ordinary time because it needs to be that touchpoint, that springboard, that reminds us of how we need to live our lives day in and day out true to our identity as the Sons and Daughters of God, true to our mission to bring Christ to the world. And true to our purpose, which is to be the Beloved Sons and Daughters we are called to be. So even though the glory of Christmas, may have passed it is the glory of Christ now that we continue to share, hopefully in everything we do because of our baptism. Not a homily not a sermon just that little Jolt of Faith. we may all need to remember.
