Jolt of Faith 4/24 – Easter Isn’t Over! How to Encounter the Risen Christ This Week

As we gather during this solemnity of Easter this Easter week, we continue the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Because that was such a cosmic powerful event we can’t limit the celebration in just one day.So the church over these eight days, we call the Octave of Easter continues the celebration. And it’s a great time for us to continue our own celebration to continue to eat the chocolate and the jellybeans and all the things that we associate with Easter, but also more importantly, to continue to rejoice in the risen Lord. Each day after Easter, the church gives us a different account of the resurrection. A different perspective or someone’s experience of encountering the risen Christ. Yes, my friends, the risen Christ, again, is not meant to be contained just to the books of history. But we too can continue to encounter the risen Christ in our lives as well. During this Octave of Easter, am I open to encountering the risen Christ?

Maybe in my family, maybe in my friends, maybe in people at work, in new and unexpected ways that the risen Jesus might touch me to an unexpected event. As we continue our celebration of Easter, we need to be like the apostles and the women at the tomb on that Easter morning, ready for the unimaginable, ready to be surprised.Because as Jesus reminds us in the Gospel, the risen Lord likes to come into our daily lives with His power, with His experience, and with His love. Are you and I open to receiving that gift this Easter season for ourselves? Not a sermon, not a homily, but just that little Jolt of Faith we all may need.
