We reflect on Saint Augustine of Hippo, one of the Church’s greatest minds and hearts. In his early life, he chased pleasure, knowledge, and worldly success—but none of it brought peace. Only in God did he find rest.
His famous words still speak to us today:
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
Saint Augustine reminds us that no created thing can satisfy the deep ache in our hearts—only the Creator can. His story is not one of perfect behavior, but of honest searching, struggle, and ultimately transformation through grace.
Let us ask Saint Augustine to walk with us on our own journey toward truth and meaning.

Saintly Summer: Saint Augustine: From Restlessness to Redemption, 9/4
Saint Augustine was a great saint. He lived in the fourth century and in his early life, he chased happiness through pleasure, the intellect, and many other things, but he could only find restlessness. It was only until he encountered God that he could actually find inner peace. And in his confessions, he famously wrote “you have made us for yourself, oh, Lord, and our hearts remain restless until they can rest in you.” And this is the lesson, Saint Augustine teaches us that no creature can satisfy the longings of the human heart. It is only the creator who can quiet that inner ache and Saint Augustine through his journey from rebellion to faith teaches us that our deepest transformation doesn’t come for from a perfect behavior, but rather from a deep and honest search of true and meaning. So let us pray to Saint Augustine that he may accompany us in this journey that life is. Not a sermon, not a homily, just a little Jolt of Faith that we all need.
