As we continue our own celebration of Easter, we continue to rejoice and to give thanks for the gift of mercy and forgiveness that comes to us in the death and resurrection of Christ. And that also comes with a catch that we often forget about. The mercy God gives us we have to be willing to give to others. The words of scripture remind us that Jesus has some hard words for us, some challenging words. Forgive as you have been forgiven. And in our father, forgive us our trustworthiness as we forgive those who trust pass against us. Jesus expects us to forgive as we have been forgiven. And that demand pushes us to realize that we can’t let those resentments take root.
