Over the next few weeks, we’ll explore different ways we can grow closer to God through prayer.
We begin with the one most familiar to us: petition prayer—asking God for help. Whether it’s for a job, healing, strength in a tough moment, or even the little daily challenges, God wants us to bring it all to Him.
Petition isn’t just about “getting what we want.” It’s about trusting that all good things come from God and letting that trust strengthen our relationship with Him.
🙏 Join us for Part 1 of the series and discover why asking God for help is an essential step in deepening your faith.

Types of Prayer Series (Part 1): Petition | Jolt of Faith+ 9/18
For the next few Jolts of Faith, I want to talk about the different types of prayer. Now we all pray, we know how to do that but we don’t always realize there are different types of prayer. Different ways that we grow closer, we communicate with God. This week we’re going to talk about the one, we all know the best which is petition. Asking God for things. Lord help me to get that job. Help my grandmother to get better help this to happen, help that to happen, you know, we go to God, asking God to help us. And sometimes we feel guilty thinking all I ever do is ask God for things yet, Jesus himself tells us in the scriptures to go to our Heavenly Father for everything. God wants us to ask, not just the big 911 stuff, but even the daily things in our lives. Like that meeting we’re not looking forward to, that conversation we’ve got to have that we know that can be difficult. Even that household task that we’re really dreading. God wants us to petition Him for His help, His guidance and His support, and we should never feel bad about asking God for things, but we also need to realize that asking, God is not just trying to get what I want trying to as St. Theresa said, “Wear God down into giving me what I want…but it’s also about deepening and strengthening my own trust in that all good things come from God, Because when I realized that all good things come from God it helps my faith grow, it helps my trust grow. And most importantly, it helps my relationship with God grow. Not a sermon, not a homily, but just that little Jolt of Faith.
