If you had to pick the best known saint, this would be him. Everyone knows Saint Francis of Assisi. And that’s just not because he loved animals and was a conservationists. But I think Saint Francis is so well known because he was so Christlike. In a time of corruption, a time of scandal, Francis rushed in to hold up the church by getting us back to our roots. Simplicity, price like poverty, and giving of ourselves. And like Francis, we can see God everywhere. Francis didn’t just love animals. He saw them as gifts to us from God. Francis rejoiced in creation because it was a constant reminder to him of God’s love. That’s a good reminder for us. Saint Francis of Assisi might have lived over eight hundred years ago, but his example is still powerful.
