The Pastorate of St. John and St. Joseph Inclement Weather Policy

The Pastorate follows the Frederick County Public School policy as a baseline for closings. Please visit fcps.org to determine how closings or delays affect campus operations.

When Frederick County Public Schools are closed, the Pastorate campuses are closed.

When Frederick County Public Schools are delayed, morning Mass will go on as scheduled, and the parish offices will open on time. However, there is one exception regarding Mass at the historic church at St. Joseph: If Frederick County Public Schools are delayed OR if there is ANY precipitation on Tuesday mornings, or there was precipitation the night before—Mass will be moved to the new church at St. Joseph.

When Frederick County schools close early and/or cancel evening activities, the campus will be closed for evening activities.

Weekend Masses are rarely cancelled due to weather. The safety of our parishioners is of utmost importance, and we strongly encourage you to exercise good judgement before setting out. The obligation to attend Mass is relieved if you cannot attend due to bad weather. In the event that Mass is cancelled, all other activities and events scheduled for that day will be cancelled. If inclement weather occurs on days when non-regularly scheduled events/liturgies are scheduled (weddings, funerals, baptisms), the presider or delegated staff member will work with the family to make a decision.
