1st-5th Grade Faith Formation

The Church recognizes that parents serve as the initial and most significant educators of faith in their children’s lives. Consequently, the Pastorate’s faith formation emphasizes the role of parents as the primary teachers of their children. The programs offered by the Pastorate for sacramental preparation and ongoing formation embody this recognition, affirming parents as the principal educators and supplying support and resources as families progress in their faith journey.

Our elementary faith formation utilizes the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies curriculum, which follows a liturgical catechesis approach. This method uses the weekly Gospel to aid lesson teaching and connect it to the Church’s catechism, allowing children to achieve a deeper understanding of the Mass. Additionally, as required by the Archdiocese of Baltimore, we incorporate family life into the curriculum. The Pastorate utilizes the Growing with God series, by Loyola Press.

The Pastorate provides the following formation opportunities to partner with parents in nurturing their children’s spiritual growth.

Hybrid Elementary Sunday Morning

St. John Campus (9:30-10:45 am) and St. Joseph Campus (9:00-10:15 am)

Program components:

Attend Family Gathered Sessions (FGS).
2 times a month (1st two Sundays of the month) children are on campus in classrooms with catechists to learn with their peers.
2-3 times a month children work with parents at home on materials provided.
Parents encouraged to attend Pastorate prayer and formation opportunities.

St. John Campus 6:30-7:45 pm
